Finding circles and triangles in nature: An outdoor challenge.

Micah and Milla are learning about shapes. After finishing a Project Learning Tree Activity involving making a shape necklace, we took the learning to the streets. 

We went on a walk around the neighborhood wearing our shape necklaces to help us on our shape hunt. Of course, all the shape necklaces ended up as a layer of crowns on the head of the King.

The only rule for the shape hunt was the shape had to be a "natural" as opposed to man-made shape found on a "natural" as opposed to man-made object. No bricks or streets or pavements. Circles were the easiest to find.

Max would not let Vanilla's anus go uncredited in the circles round.

Mushroom circles, pebbles and rock circles, dog bottom circles, berry circles, and small holes in the ground circles.

Tiny holes bored into bark, nuts and acorns, the circle shape of a cicada head, circular fungi or lichen on rocks, and another circle mushroom.

Triangles proved trickier to spot.

Gary's nose was a triangle; Micah kept spotting leaves and vines with triangles in them, and Max noticed that the lichen on the tree stump created radiating triangles from the center.
